New Math Standards

Today on my America Weekend show, I asked Berkeley math professor Edward Frenkel what's wrong with the way we teach math in our schools, and what's keeping the US behind other nations in our students' math skills? We talked about the Common Core Standards, which give the US a national basis for math education, but have been opposed by the Republican National Committee because those politicians don't want Washington to tell the states how to teach math -- as if there's a difference in the way New Jersey and Alabama do fractions.
